Oluwasegun Fabiyi Michael

Oluwasegun Fabiyi Michael is an incoming PhD Scholar at Tsinghua University. He is completing a Master of Law in Politics and International Relations (China Studies) as a Yenching Scholar at Peking University, under the supervision of Professor Liu Haifang. Previously, he earned an MA in African Studies from Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and served as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, United States. He also holds a BA in English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria.

Mr. Michael’s expertise spans Africa-China relations with a focus on economic, educational, and cultural diplomacy. His research applies the framework of coevolutionary pragmatism to analyze Sino-African cooperation, employing ethnographic and narrative methodologies. He has contributed to public discourse through appearances on media outlets such as CGTN, China Daily, and China News Network, and has represented Nigeria in high-level international forums including the 2023 UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council.

His leadership roles include serving as President of the Graduate Students in African Studies Association, IU Bloomington, and as the current Vice-President of the African Students’ Association at Peking University. He has also engaged in development-oriented initiatives, such as advocacy for girl-child education in Nigeria and support programs for Afghan refugees.
